Kabzaa’s heavy KGF influence is obvious right from the first frame and from then on it’s a continuous cascades of innumerable KGF templates that completely obliterates any originality that the plot could have had. The haywire screenplay, the deafening gunshots, bad edits, the loud background score and the annoying romance make it a challenge to engage oneself in the film. None of the characters got any depth and it is left to the assumption of the viewers. The sit up moments are far and few.
Upendra, we know the brilliant director that he is and it’s unfathomable how he agreed to be part of this film. His performance too is jaded and looks old. Shriya is neat. Sudheep is in a small role and Shivraj in a much smaller one. The villains are the performers. The production design is decent. Cinematography by AJ Shetty is good. Ravi Basrur’s background score can ram the ears of many. Songs are Okay. Dialogues are ineffective. Editing by Mahesh Reddy is all over the place. Direction is badly inspired.
Upendra has played his character to perfection. Sudeep has a special cameo as Bhargav Bakshi which manages to make an impact. Shriya Saran being Madhumathi carries the emotional element, Murali Sharma, Sunil Puranik and Anoop Revanna have given their best. Namami song visually fascinates amidst all the blood and gore sequences. There are a host of villains in the movie, but Arkeswhara stands tall among them. There are many one-liners and punching dialogues which play to the gallery. Shivarajkumar’s entry in the climax brings another twist in the tale and is one of the main points in the movie. The story, visual presentation, and ensemble cast makes the movie worth watching.
Kabzaa also suffers in the technical aspects as well. While Ravi Basrur’s score is as great as always, there seems to be something wrong with the sound mixing. For instance, before you can hear the name of a new character, the loud background score begins and immediately drowns down the pivotal dialogues. The tacky VFX is another distraction in this film.

Sohel has decent screen presence and he tries all like a typical commercial hero. But, succeeded only to some extent in doing everything like dances, stunts, comedy. He did okay overall on his part. Mirnalini Ravi looks good with expressive face and did her part as a regular heroine in old style love story films. Rajendra Prasad’s role reminds of Prakash Raj’s character in Race Gurram. Though his role is written with familiar tropes, he manages and carried it with his experience. Sunil in an innocent role provides some laughs. Varun Sandesh is okay in a cameo kind of role. Other comedians failed miserably with poorly written comedy and made it even more difficult to watch with their overboard acting.
Mrinalini Ravi, who made her Telugu debut with Gadhhalakonda Ganesh, showcases her expressive skills as Haasini. The actress looks stunning and shares a great chemistry with the lead actor. It’s refreshing to see Sunil in a lighthearted and humorous role, and his body language and mannerisms are well utilized by the director.
Although the first half of the film is average, the comedy is decent. Rajendra Prasad, who plays an important role, delivers his usual best. The songs are beautifully picturized, and the film is clean without any inappropriate content. Varun Sandesh’s cameo appearance is satisfactory.
Director SV Krishna Reddy was a top director in the 90s, and it looks as though he is stuck in that era. Many scenes and many sequences are straight out from a 90s film, and the entire movie is formula driven – in the sense that a fight sequence is followed by a song, which is in turn followed by a comedy scene.

Even though Venu took the Telangana backdrop and showcased the rituals and activities be conducted in the region after a person’s demise, the content has a universal appeal. Apart from a couple of dragged scenes in the first half, his screenplay is gripping with an entertaining narrative.
